Leah Sobsey is an artist and educator. She was raised in Chapel Hill North Carolina.
She received her BA in Anthropology and Sociology from Guilford College in 1995 and a MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2001. Her work has been exhibited nationally in galleries and museums and is held in private and public collections across the country.
Sobsey has taught at the San Francisco Art Institute and the Maine Photographic Workshops and currently teaches at the University of North Carolina Greensboro and the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. Her most recent large-scale public art installations have been commissioned Duke Hospital and The Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission. In 2008 she and her collaborator Lynn Bregman Blass were awarded a Durham Arts Council Emerging Artist Grant and an Orange County Artists Grant for public art projects.
Sobsey works in both traditional, digital and alternative process photography as well as mixed media installations. Her work explores archiving and the notion of “collections” as they relate to personal and public identities.

Lynn Bregman Blass was born and raised in New York City but spent most of her adult life living in California and Colorado. She and her family moved to North Carolina four years ago.
She is both an artist and a family therapist, finding that each has enriched the other. In her therapy work she has explored the relationship between inner narratives and what we create in our lives as a result of these stories. By examining these concepts she began creating paintings and mixed media installations exploring the containers and stories that we hold in our lives. She looks for objects, situations, visual information that reflects history.
Lynn teaches encaustic workshops for The Carrboro Art Center and has taught many of the artists currently working in encaustic in the Triangle. She has had numerous juried, solo and group shows through out in the US. In 2008 she and her collaborator Leah Sobsey were awarded a Durham Arts Council Emerging Artist Grant and an Orange County Artists Grant for public art projects.
